Garage lighting is not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you decorate or renovate your home but as the saying goes, a little effort in your garage lighting will go a long way.

Many of the garage designs in today’s homes do not have windows and because of that, it is important that you install the right amount of lighting depending on how you plan to use the space.
If all you plan to do is to use the garage for parking your cars, what you want to make sure is that you have enough lighting to now only illuminate the insides of your garage but also the pavement that leads into your garage. During late nights, it is also a matter of safety to have the right amount of lighting. The last thing that you want is to discover an intruder lurking in your garage right under your nose because you don’t have the right amount of lights.
One of the cheapest forms of lighting to use in the garage is the fluorescent lamp. They are relatively bright and quite cheap compared to other types of lighting. LED lights are also good choices are they are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Metal halide lamps are best for garage with large interiors, as their light distribution pattern resemble spotlights. Try not to use normal incandescent light bulbs as they run pretty hot and use a lot of power. Halogen lights are also very stylish alternatives.
It is also a good idea to install sensors to your garage lights to automatically light up when someone of something is in the garage. This way, the lights will automatically go on when you open the garage doors or when the car comes in. They would also help save energy as you won’t need to worry about the lights being left on when no one is using the garage.
