Lighting for the garage is often overlooked in interior decoration as the garage is considered to be a less important part of the home. In truth is good lighting in any space can greatly spruce up not only the looks of that space but also its utility.
A garage with good lighting can not only serve as a space to park your cars but also an area to carry out other activities, such as carpentry, fish keeping, and so on. To save a lot of trouble, you should do yourself a favor by installing some good lights in your garage.
Even if you plan to just use your garage for parking your cars, it is important to install your garage lights correctly. For safety reasons, you should shine lights on the darker areas in and outside your garage. This would be very useful especially if you are coming home late at night and no one is at home.
Fluorescent lights are very good as they are generally quite bright and is low in power consumption. Personally I prefer spotlights or flood lights as they are much brighter and not to mention easier to install (lesser to install). They may consume more power but they are seldom used anyway.
If you plan to do a lot of woodwork, mechanics or just spend a lot of time in your garage, fluorescent lights are the best as their light distribution are really good. Choosing the lights and installing them are pretty easy but if it proves to be too much for you, you should consider consulting an interior decorator friend.
